Abstract

This entry explores how videogame design can convey historical arguments and the potential benefits for historians. It offers an overview and summary of the main research done on the subject, linking videogame design to historical writing issues and definitions of « videogames for history. » Key design principles to explore in historiographical game design are presented, the goal being to provide general principles for designing historiographical video games, refine their definition, and guide further research-creation projects.
